Ellen F. Bigham, Esq.

Associate Attorney

Ms. Bigham was born in the small agrarian community of Marlin, Texas, about 175 miles south of Dallas, Texas. She is one of 11 siblings: 10 girls, 1 boy. After graduation from high school, Ms. Bigham eventually relocated to Miami, Florida, where she attended Florida International University and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations/Political Science, graduating with highest honors as Valedictorian.

Ms. Bigham was awarded a full scholarship to Georgetown University Law School in Washington, DC, earning a JD degree. Upon graduation she worked as law clerk for the Honorable Joseph Biden during his tenure as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. She subsequently worked as a pro bono attorney for the Montgomery County Bar Foundation, handling family law, guardianship, and bankruptcy cases. Ms. Bigham was asked by juvenile court Judge Lee Sislen to work with the CINA/juvenile division of the Maryland Public Defender’s Office, and was hired as a contract attorney by Managing Attorney for Montgomery County, Vanita Taylor, Esq. After the termination of this contract, Ms. Bigham was hired as Chief Attorney for  the Law Foundation of Prince Georges County, MD (now Community Legal Services in Greenbelt, MD).  Ms. Bigham managed a team of excellent attorneys and paralegals, assessed and referred cases to volunteer attorneys, recruited and trained attorneys for family law practice, conducted community and local shelter seminars designed to inform indigent and immigrant Prince Georges County residents of basic legal rights and obligations in the areas of family law, employment law, debtor/creditor relationships, traffic, and personal injury matters.

Since leaving the Law Foundation, Ms. Bigham has practiced immigration law as a sole practitioner, handling virtually all immigrant petitions both in and out of immigration court. She describes her approach to immigration practice as “holistic”, because it frequently involves family law, domestic violence law, and criminal law.

Ms. Bigham has earned the respect of her colleagues as a strong and committed advocate for her clients, always with a true and deep respect for human and individual rights. Ms. Bigham received an award from the Montgomery County Bar Foundation for her outstanding legal representation of children, immigrants, homeless, and other indigent persons. She is a member of the Maryland Bar.
